A quarter of diagnosed women are under 50, yet few screening spots are allocated to women in this age bracket. Of the 14,000 Australian women diagnosed with breast cancer every year, one in four are aged under 50, placing them outside the national breast-screening program's target age group, which is women aged 50 to 69.
